Workplace Justice
At the Pilipino Workers Center (PWC), we believe every worker deserves dignity, respect, and fairness. Through our Workplace Justice initiatives, we organize and empower immigrant workers to combat exploitation, wage theft, and unsafe working conditions. As a partner in the statewide Domestic Worker and Employer Education and Outreach Program (DWEOP) funded by the state of California, we provide the essential tools, legal resources, and community power needed for workers to stand up for their rights and win the protections they have earned.
Central to this mission are our Know Your Rights Trainings. We conduct hundreds of specialized training sessions and workshops for domestic workers and home care workers on labor rights, wage theft, workplace standards, how to negotiate with employers, and health and safety. By delivering this critical education to both workers and employers, we aim to ensure full compliance with labor laws, empower workers to deal with employers, and eliminate the vulnerabilities often faced by those in the home-care and domestic work sectors.
Our impact is driven by a comprehensive approach to advocacy and recovery:
Outreach & Engagement: We directly contact thousands of domestic workers and employers across California to raise awareness of labor laws, specifically focusing on immigrant and Filipino communities.
Wage Theft Recovery: We provide direct assistance in calculating stolen wages and filing cases, resulting in substantial monetary recovery for workers.
Capacity Building: We develop workers into leaders through education and support of organizing and leadership skills development.
Coalition & Policy Action: Working with the California Domestic Workers Coalition, LA Worker Center Network, & National Domestic Workers Alliance, we engage in mobilization and campaigns to support policy changes that protect and advance workers’ rights.
PWC’s work is dedicated to organizing and empowering Filipino workers— regardless of immigration status by enhancing access to quality employment, enforcing labor protections, and advancing their rights
